I actually wanted to throw in the towel immediately after reading this first chapter, but persevered in the hope that things would improve. Anyone who has ever picked up an edged weapon, much less tried to learn to use one will know that waggling a practice sword around one's bedroom against NO opponent, even for a period of a year is going to do very little in terms of training for anything, except perhaps increasing one's wrist and arm strength.Īnd as for Julianna's training? Of course a single twenty minute training session using a lightweight practice sword, and unadorned with heavy armour, against her brother qualifies one to immediately commence hunting large, taloned, fire-breathing dragons. Yes, I know it's fantasy, the dragon hunting sort of gave that away, but there still needs to be a logical progression of events. ![]() ![]() I'd suggest thinking twice before picking this up if you like logic and at least some realism infusing your fantasy reads. ![]()
